Changing Mindsets & Public Awareness Strategy

  • Campaign Focus Public Education, World Hearing Day (WHD), Digital Media
  • Role Focus Campaign Manager, Survey Researcher, Content Creator
Executive Summary (TL;DR)
  • The Strategy: A comprehensive, two-pillar public advocacy campaign combining continuous multi-channel media outreach with targeted audience research to tackle the societal stigma surrounding hearing loss.
  • Media Outreach: Orchestrated press conferences, podcast productions, and interactive video content to proactively educate the public and raise baseline awareness of auditory well-being.
  • Audience Insights: Conducted the World Hearing Day survey (375 valid responses) to evaluate public understanding, successfully uncovering critical persistent myths to guide future targeted communication.

Pillar 1: Uncovering Public Misconceptions (2024 Survey)

While consistently executing public education campaigns, I recognized the need to evaluate the public's actual baseline knowledge. Aligning with the 2024 World Hearing Day theme "Changing Mindsets," I designed a 13-question survey. By analyzing 375 valid responses, we uncovered the hidden barriers preventing proactive hearing care.

33%

Believed hearing loss cannot be detected without professional evaluation.

Strategic Insight Identified an urgent need to educate the public on self-identifiable signs, such as difficulty following conversations in noisy environments.
19%

Were entirely unaware that hearing aids are accessible through trials or rental programs.

Strategic Insight Highlighted the necessity for broader dissemination of information regarding flexible assistive device options to lower the barrier to entry.
15%

Held incorrect views on earwax management, insisting on using cotton swabs.

Strategic Insight Revealed a critical gap in basic ear hygiene knowledge, underscoring the importance of educating about earwax's protective role.

*Methodology Note: Survey participants received personalized test results accompanied by a curated "Facts" webpage designed to immediately address and dispel these identified misconceptions.

Pillar 2: Continuous Multi-Channel Outreach

The Paradigm Shift: From Reactive to Proactive

"Traditionally, audiology has been a reactive field—waiting for patients to experience severe hearing loss before stepping into a clinic. These advocacy initiatives represent a paradigm shift. By weaving engaging, accurate auditory knowledge directly into the fabric of daily media, we are transforming hearing care from a delayed clinical treatment into proactive, everyday wellness."
